Chicago PD Superintendent: Conference to “Surpass Its Mark”

Guest Blogger: Garry F. McCarthy, Superintendent of Police, Chicago Police Department

With the conference well under way, it is clear this year’s event is set to surpass its mark. The instructors, the workshops, and the exhibitions have been absolutely dynamic, and you are making this experience unique by bringing your insight and expertise into the mix.

There are more than 150 educational sessions to choose from here, and I hope you will consider the presentations offered by the Chicago Police Department as part of the Host Department Track. We are honored to highlight the programs and achievements that have contributed to our many accomplishments in fighting crime, and we believe these ideas will serve you well as you return to your own agencies.

Several tools are available at the IACP conference website to help attendees organize workshop schedules and denote favorite exhibitions. I encourage each of you to make your experience here your own. An exhibit floor plan also is available with to assist you in maximizing your plans.

As you meet new colleagues or enjoy time with peers you know, take advantage of Chicago as you socialize on breaks. And as you encounter organizers who made this event possible, please take a moment to extend appreciation for all their hard work. I especially would like to thank the people at Motorola for their considerable generosity in not only supporting the conference but also in honoring our fallen and catastrophically injured brothers and sisters with a substantial contribution to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.

Thank you.
