Conference Spotlight: Chief Executive Track
While at this year’s IACP conference in San Diego, stop by the IACP’s primary and largest track, the Chief Executive Track. Focused largely on the most pressing problems face by police chiefs today, this track offers opportunities for attendees to fine-tune their individual leadership skills. Starting Saturday morning and running until Wednesday afternoon, this track will undoubtedly keep you busy.
Attendees will find workshops in the Chief Executive Track that cover a wide range of topics from budgeting, to officer safety, to community relations. Below is just a snapshot of what you will find in the Chief Executive Track at IACP 2012. These workshops focus on partnership, outreach, and technology.
- “Planting Seeds of Change in Bangladesh and Portland- A Policing Partnership” highlights a collaborative effort between the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) and Department of Justice, International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP). This partnership provides training support for the ICITAP’s Community Policing Program in Bangladesh. Aside from acting as educators, the PPB’s mission is to educate themselves about the plight of the impoverished and better develop community relations with a Muslim population.
- “Social Media: Challenges and Opportunities” features law enforcement executives who will share how their agencies are using social media to solve crimes, build community support, and enhance operations. Executives at this session will describe both the challenges and opportunities that various social media platforms present.
- “Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS): Integrating sUAS Technology into American Law Enforcement Operations” will explore the expanding field of drone technology. Focusing on U.S. law enforcement agencies, this panel will discuss regulatory issues, legal challenges, privacy concerns, and the numerous ways of using this exciting new technology.
