The IACP Midsize Agencies Section members from Illinois held a “working lunch” meeting on August 21st as part of the Midwest Security and Police Conference. The annual event is sponsored by The Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police in conjunction with the F.B.I. National Academy Associates of Illinois, and was held at the Tinley Park Convention Center in suburban Chicago.
Chief Steve Neubauer of Tinley Park served as host for the lunch meeting that was underwritten by Motorola. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan delivered a briefing update on narcotics enforcement to the group of police chiefs representing agencies in Illinois that fall into the Midsize Agencies section (populations of 50,000 to 500,000). Later in the afternoon Chief Tim McCarthy of Orland Park moderated a round table discussion on a variety of topics including:
- The Mid-Size Agency Section meeting on Monday October 1st at the upcoming annual IACP conference in San Diego;
- Manpower, contract work rules & overtime issues
- Technology challenges; and
- Pending state legislation
The group of 28 Chiefs represent the agencies that police approximately 1/5 of Illinois residents living outside the city of Chicago.
