Show Daily: Saturday’s Highlights and Sunday’s Preview

Welcome to the first Show Daily from IACP 2012!

What a packed and successful opening day! Today marked the official start of IACP 2012 with the Opening Ceremony at the San Diego Convention Center. Our thanks to the San Diego Police Department for its impressive display of police ceremonial pageantry. Our thanks also to San Diego Police Chief William Lansdowne and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, who spoke to IACP membership gathered in Ballroom 20.

Leave a comment below: What was your favorite part about the Opening Ceremony?

Also today, IACP 2012 attendees were treated to a documentary screening of Heroes Behind the Badge. This film, by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, featured the stories of brave men and women in law enforcement who selflessly protect the public.

Tomorrow is even more filled with indispensable activities. If you’re really a morning person, consider taking part in the San Diego Police Department’s 5K Sun Run on the Bayfront or the department and Motorola Solutions Foundation’s Police Chiefs Charity Classic at Maderas Golf Club.

At the convention center, education sessions begin at 8 a.m., so be sure to check the schedule to determine times and locations for the must-attend sessions for you.

The much-anticipated IACP 2012 Exhibit Hall opens at 10 a.m., preceded at 9:45 a.m. by the annual ribbon-cutting ceremony. All conference attendees are welcome to attend this ceremony where IACP and exhibiting company representatives officially open the largest law enforcement exhibition in the world. The hall remains open until 5 p.m. tomorrow.
