In the past year, the IACP has recognized initiatives by agencies from Monroe County, Georgia; Waco, Texas; and Arlington, Texas, among others, for ramping up the victims’ services efforts within their communities. In this blog series, we will recognize some of the award-winning strategies these agencies created to provide comprehensive services to victims of crime, such as operating an advocacy center, providing on scene crisis intervention through a Victim Services Unit, and providing continuous counseling to victims. In the coming weeks, we will be bringing you posts highlighting these specific initiatives by various winners.
IACP and LogIn, Inc. jointly sponsor the Excellence in Victim Services Award, which recognizes law enforcement agencies that provide exceptional service to victims of crimes through original programs that enhance victim response at every level of the organization.
This year, three agencies will be selected that demonstrate innovative approaches to meeting the needs of crime victims within their communities, one for each agency category: small, medium and large. One representative from each winning agency receives an all expenses paid trip to the 2013 IACP Annual Conference in Philadelphia.
