When you turn the valves of the grill, gas, either natural or propane starts to flow out through the burner in quantities allowed by the valve. Igniting the gas coming out from the burner will produce a continuous flame that heats up the grill. Since most grills are completely made out of metal parts, the heat from the fire spreads evenly throughout the grill’s cooking area.

Once you are done using the grill, turn off the burner knobs in case of a natural gas grill and if you are using a propane grill then turn off the valves on the gas tank to shut off the grill. Cleaning the grill
Many food items require oiling or other kinds of liquids to be used in their cooking process which when cooked on the grill can slip through the grills and clog the burner holes or stain the areas below the grills. Cleaning such oily stains is a tough task but can be done by following proper instructions.
To clean these stains you need to first remove any removable parts of the grill apart so that you can easily access all the parts of the grill easily. Once that is done take a wet or damp cloth and some soapy water and clean the stained surfaces thoroughly. Oil stains can be tricky to get rid of and you might need more than one round to clean a particular stain. To clean the burner holes, take out the burner cap and use a small brush with hard bristles to clean out the oil stuck in the holes.
